What a super start to this half-term. We started the half term by reading The Matchbox diary and looking at the children's matchboxes from home. The children worked in groups to tell the story of an Italian child on their journey to a new life in America. There was some great team work which resulted in fantastic diaries.
We are moving on to look at the life of an inspirational leader, Nelson Mandela. The children will find out all about his life and achievements and write a biography about him. They will studying the inspiring 'Invictus' and write their own poems about strength, dignity and determination.
Before Christmas, we will be learning about Electricity in Science which will culminate in the children designed and making their own light up Christmas pictures.
Our Oceans topic has started fantastically! So far, we have loved our science work on adaptations and animal classification. As part of our English work, we have been spending time looking at argument texts about the impact of humans on ocean species. These have ignited some very passionate responses from some of the children! We are looking forward to doing some artwork based on the Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson, as well as using the Japanese film 'Ponyo' to inspire our English work.
As always, the door is open if there is anything you want to discuss with us.
