At Arno Vale, we have developed our own calculations policy. The aims of this are:
- To ensure a consistent approach to the teaching of written calculation methods to enhance children’s progression and understanding.
- To ensure that children develop an efficient, reliable, formal written method of calculation for all four operations.
- To inform parents/carers of the progression in written calculation methods that are taught in school.
At Arno Vale Junior School, we believe that maths is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for all forms of employment.
Improving times table recall speed is fundamental as the facts underpin so many areas of maths. We use Times Tables Rock Stars as one way to support children with this.
Your child should have been given their log in details. If they can't remember them, please just contact their class teacher for a reminder.
Each class will have regular sessions in school on Times Tables Rock Stars but encouraging your child to play at home too will really help them. We recommend 3-5 minutes a day, 4 or 5 times a week where possible.
Below is an updated user guide for parents and carers. It also contains the answers to some frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
