A day in the life of an Arno Vale Young Leader...
At the beginning of the year, Mr Baker invited pupils in Year 6 to apply for this important job. The lucky 16 (who were chosen from their written applications) are now kept busy at breaks and lunchtimes organising activities for the rest of the school. Their aim is to get children involved in games at playtimes.
After special training, which involved learning new games to teach to others and ways to cooperate, the leaders can now begin playing activities with others. The leaders will get out a variety of equipment, which they have purchased with their £100 budget.
The Young Leaders keep people active and occupied. This stops boys and girls being lonely, getting involved in trouble and means there are less playground injuries.
The leaders already enjoy working with young children but this job is giving them the chance to take on new responsibilities, develop their confidence and learn how to be respectful of people and equipment.
Last week was a chance for the leaders to teach a game to a group of younger children on the new playground soft surface. It was a great success. When the weather allows, the leaders will be active most days of the week.
